Gifts and Curses of the Pantheon
The Modifiers
The Modifiers are the gods' final word: gifts and curses offered by a pantheon that could not agree on whether mortals deserved to win. Not all of them carry risk — some are straightforward boons — but the best ones demand something in return. Knowing which modifier to place on which prediction is itself a form of reasoning: a measure of confidence made flesh. Apply them carelessly and they can destroy a prediction. Apply them wisely and they can transform one.
What Are Modifiers?
Each modifier alters the score of a single prediction. When you submit a prediction, you may attach one modifier to it — and that choice is yours alone to make. Some modifiers are straightforward amplifiers. Others are conditional, paying out only when a specific scenario unfolds. A few are traps.
Every player receives the full set of modifiers for each tournament they compete in. You do not have to ration them across competitions — a player in five tournaments has the full set available in each one independently. Within a tournament, however, each modifier carries a cooldown: once used, it becomes unavailable for a period before returning to your pool. The length of that cooldown is set by the tournament itself, not by the modifier.
Choosing which modifier to apply — and to which fixture — is part of the game.
The Cooldown System
Each modifier moves through four states within a tournament. Understanding this cycle is key to using modifiers well.

Applied independently to every scoring component — 90 minutes, extra time, and penalties. On league fixtures with no extensions it behaves like a 90-minute modifier. Its full power is realised on knockout fixtures that go deep.
Applied separately to both the extra time score and the penalties score. Has no effect unless the relevant phase occurs.
Applies to the extra time component only. Has no effect unless the fixture goes to extra time. Best reserved for knockout fixtures.
Applies to the penalties component only. Has no effect unless the fixture reaches a shootout.
